Start the day with a scenic drive from Saranda to the tranquil town of Delvina, historically an important medieval center in southern Albania. Once a thriving cultural and administrative center, Delvina is known as the birthplace of Albania’s prime minister after it became a republic. Today, Delvina maintains a peace that reflects both its Ottoman heritage and communist-era architecture.
First Stop: Gjin Aleksi Mosque – A Hidden Architectural Gem
Visit the stunning Gjin Aleksi Mosque, one of the finest and best-preserved examples of Islamic architecture in Albania. Dating back to the 16th century, the mosque is renowned for its perfect acoustics, hand-carved wooden ceiling, and elegant structure.
Second Stop: Monastery of St. Mary in Kameno
Next, head towards the hilltop village of Kameno, home to the tranquil Monastery of St. Mary. This Byzantine-style church, surrounded by olive trees and nature, offers a serene setting and a spiritual atmosphere with breathtaking views and great historical value. Third Stop: Local Wine and Raki Tasting
On the way back to Saranda, we’ll stop at a local winery, where you’ll have the opportunity to participate in a guided tasting of regional wines and traditional Albanian raki, a local liqueur. The tasting will be accompanied by a selection of typical products and light snacks, giving you a true taste of local flavors.
In the afternoon, return to Saranda after a day filled with history, spirituality, and southern Albanian hospitality.
