Step back in time with a full-day guided tour from Saranda to Gjirokastër, a UNESCO World Heritage site, also known as “The City of Stone.” Famous for its fortress and Ottoman architecture, Gjirokastër offers a unique glimpse into Albania’s rich historical and cultural heritage.
First Stop: Gjirokastër Castle
We begin our journey with a visit to Gjirokastër Castle, one of the largest and oldest castles in the Balkans. We explore its armory, gallery, clock tower, and the open-air stage of the National Folklore Festival. We enjoy the spectacular views of the Drino Valley and breathe in the powerful atmosphere of centuries past.
Second Stop: 18th-Century Traditional House
We continue with a visit to one of Gjirokastër’s traditional 18th-century houses, a well-preserved example of how Albanian nobles lived during the Ottoman period. We’ll discover carved wooden ceilings, stone fireplaces, and authentic rooms that reflect the elegance, privacy, and craftsmanship of a bygone era.
Third Stop: Old Bazaar – Free Time
We’ll enjoy some free time in Gjirokastër’s picturesque Old Bazaar, where the cobbled streets are lined with shops selling local crafts and traditional souvenirs. We’ll stop at a cozy café or enjoy lunch at a typical local tavern to savor traditional cuisine.
