Saranda – Viroi – Labova e Kryqit – Libohovë – Saranda
This full-day tour is perfect for those seeking nature and relaxation, far from the noise and smog of the city. You’ll explore the unspoiled beauty and rich history of the rural areas of Gjirokastra and Saranda, where history, legends, and warm local hospitality blend with the wild Albanian landscape.
Departure: 08:30 from Saranda
Return: Around 16:00
Your journey begins with a stop at Lake Viroi, a crystal-clear oasis fed by springs from Mali I Gjerë. This peaceful spot is perfect for a morning coffee and a moment of relaxation before continuing into the valley.
We then pass through the Drino Valley, a place of natural beauty and rich biodiversity, shaped by the Drino River over centuries and touched by many civilizations.
Next, we head to Labova e Kryqit, home to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church, one of the most beautiful in the Balkans. Built in the 13th century, with foundations dating back to the time of Emperor Justinian I, it is a true Byzantine treasure. After the visit, enjoy a stroll through the village’s cobbled alleys and soak in the authentic rural atmosphere.

In Libohovë, we visit Ali Pasha Tepelena’s Castle, built as a wedding gift for his sister, Shahnisha. From its walls, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the valley and Mount Bureto, from which fresh mountain springs with curative waters flow.

At the heart of the town stands the 560-year-old Plane Tree, with a diameter of 7 meters and a total canopy area of 1,100 m². Under its generous shade, we enjoy a simple traditional lunch accompanied by fresh spring water (other drinks available at extra cost).
After lunch, we return to Saranda via the scenic Muzina Road, where mountains and wild landscapes create unforgettable views.
